Very High Resolution Lunar Photo

I was just looking at my e-mail archive and found this extremely high resolution image of the Moon. It was sent to us by Jean-Luc Dauvergne back in June 2006. Jean-Luc works for the French magazine Ciel et Espace (magazine de sciences de l’AFA, Association française d’Astronomie). Click the photo for the original (2.1 MB).

I think this must be the highest resolution photo that we have received so far. If you can top it, please send me your astronomy photo and I will publish it here. Of course, the photo must have been captured, using one of The Imaging Source cameras.

Thanks goes to Jean-Luc Dauvergne for this spectacular image.

I have imaged and studied images professionally for more than 40 years. The lunar images are excellent. However, I am not at all surprised by the work. The advent of electronic cmaeras has placed high resolution capabilities in the hands of anyone that is patient enough and skilled enough to image the moon and other subjecs to the level that their instrument is capable of reaching.
The factors of “seeing”, “tracking”, “instrument quality”, and “skill level” have long been known by many involved with high resolution imaging. Once the diffraction limit is achieved, there is no futher information than can be obtained anywhere (on Earth or in Space).
I am pleased to see a few individuals reach these levels from time to time. Again, well done on the lunar example.

The best way is to e-mail your photos to info@theimagingsource.com – I will then copy your photos into the archive of sample images or into this blog. Thank you.

To anyone:I wish to make a 6′x6′ print of the Jean Luc Dauvergne moon photo.I believe the high resolution and size will transform it from a photo into a work of art.First, may I use it? Second,is there a company you know of that could print it? Kinkos is an option but I wonder if expertise would produce better results.Any suggestions are appreciated but please bear in mind I have no photography experience.Thank-you,Grant
