Massive Prominences

On Saturday, Oldfield posted a series of monster size prominences in his blog.

In his blog, Oldfield writes:

[...] the typhoon from Taiwan is bringing a foggy day for Hong Kong, transparency is like 1/10, the sky is all white but you can still see some deep yellow sun light when the cloud is thinner. Seeing 2-3/10, typical [...]

Below is one of the many images that he has published.

More can be found in his blog.

Again, thanks goes to Oldfield for his work with his DMK 31AF03.

Feedback from AAPT Raffle Winner

In an effort to support science education, The Imaging Source and AstronomyCamera.com sponsored a raffle at the American Association of Physics Teachers Summer Meeting. Here is how one of the winners will be using her new DFK 21AF04.AS.

Esther Zirbel writes:

…I am really excited to have won the DFK 21AF04.AS and I have a perfect use for it. I am starting a new position at the advanced Math and Science Academy in Marboro, MA, and my students will now profit not only from peaking through a telescope, but also from seeing (and then saving and processing) the images on my laptop. I hope I will thus inspire the students in astronomy, photography, telescopes, and observing!

Esther, you can count on that inspiration, I’m sure! Glad The Imaging Source and AstronomyCameras.com could help!

Getting Started: Astro Imaging Resources

For those of you that are just starting off in the imaging field with your DMK and need a couple of good reference “go to” places, let me help. AstronomyCamerasBLOG.com will, of course, provide you not only with FAQ’s from your peers, but also brilliant shots sent to us by the DMK camera community.

Additionally, The Imaging Source has a wealth of information both on the homepage in “The White Papers“and in the Imaging Control Forums monitored by our own IC Capture Guru, Stefan. “The White Papers” and the Forums can be found directly at the links below:

Alternatively, I recently ran across quite a nice CCD glossary by Ron Wodaski on Sky Insight, a downloadable magazine for sky imaging. One thing you can never have enough of in the imaging world is support. Hopefully these are a good beginning!

Jupiter Captured By DMK 21AF04.AS (in LRGB)

Tim Easterday has recently posted a report about his first experiments with the DMK 21AF04.AS astronomy camera and his new Astronomik LRGB filters.

You can read the full report in the blog post: My first Jupiter in LRGB with the DMK 21AF04.AS.

Tim concludes with:

I am very happy with the result, especially since I really don’t know what I am doing with Registax, and have only been at this for less than one year.

Below is one of the resulting images that he has posted:

Mike Salway In Sky and Space Advert

One of our main resellers in Australia, York Optical, has published a full page advert in the Australian magazine Sky and Space for The Imaging Source astronomy cameras.

The advert that appears on page 2 of the July/August 2007 edition includes a quote from Mike Salway from the legendary IceInSpace forums:

The DMK 21AF04 monochrome camera took my imaging to the next level. The low-noise, high-sensitivity and fast frame rate make it perfect from long focal length imaging of the moon and planets.

The advert published the following image of Jupiter, which was captured by Mike Salway:
