Occultation of Mars in May 2008

Ever since they were released, The Imaging Source astronomy cameras have been reviewed by many astronomy communities around the world. This time, Philippe Morel, the president of  la Société Astronomique de France (Astronomical Society of France) tested the well known DMK 41AU02.AS for 9 months in a variety of conditions. The review he finished recently will be published in the July edition of the society journal.

The article comprehensive and includes many pictures taken with the camera. Here is one of them which shows the occultation of Mars on 10th of May, 2008:

Merci beaucoup Philippe Morel for the work!

Saturn and Titan

Ralph Ford, from Redondo Beach, CA, sent us this picture last week.

Here is a photo of Saturn made April 29, 2009.  I used an 8″ F/6 Newtonian, 2.5X barlow and a DMK 21AU04.AS camera for the image.  About 900 frames were stacked and processed with RegiStax.  I live about a mile from the ocean, when the low clouds do not move in, I often get excellent seeing.

Many Thanks to Ralph!

Solar Image by Patrick Pelletier

French astronomy amateur Patrick Pelletier sent us this splendid solar image last week. He took it with his DMK 41AU02.AS astronomy camera on 4 June 2009.

We translated part of his email as below:

This is my first solar image with your camera DMK 41AU02.AS and Coronado H alpha filter, with a background of a cloudy sky.

The image was taken at 08:30 GMT 4 June 2009, and later processed in Registax 5.

… …

Merci beaucoup Patrick!

Short Movie of Jupiter

Click the following link and you will open a Jupiter video made by Ralph Ford, CA. He took dozens of image sequences of the gas giant over the past a few months and made this movie on his own.

JupRotation.wmv

He told us in the email

A few months ago I decided to try making a movie of Jupiter’s rotation.  Using a C8 at prime focus and a DMK 21AU04.AS camera, I took 62 one hundred frame sequences at 1 minute intervals.  I processed each video sequence in RegiStax to make 62 individual JPEGs.  I then used Photoshop to align each frame.  Finally I used PhotoLapse to make the movie.  This is a fairly low quality movie file, the original is 56 mb.

It takes time to finish a video like this, a great work indeed! Thank you Ralph!
