Stunning Mars and Sun Images

The following Mars and Sun images are submitted by Italian amateur Giancarlo Calzetta, who photographs the sky with DMK 41AU02.AS and DBK 21AU04.AS astronomy cameras. Giancarlo took these images in Bratto and Bergamo, northern Italy.

Here is the quote of his email:

I use 3 different DMK cameras to take pictures of solar planet objects and events. I thought to send you a few shots of mine. I think that the “whole sun” images are particularly interesting since it shows how you can use a DMK41 to image the whole sun in just one exposition, without spending time in doing time consuming mosaics.

Saturn Image

German astrophotographer Roman Breisch sent us a Saturn image last week. He took the image at 21:07, 12.April, 2010 (Central European Summer Time).

Here is the translation of his email:

I have possibly something for you, a Saturn image from yesterday evening, as always captured by DMK 21AU04.AS astronomy camera.
Equipment: Celestron C11 11″ Schmidt-Cassegrain, Astronomik Filterset LRGB II, RGB composite with every 400 out of 1000 images per color channel.
The picture was taken in Erdweg, about 30km northwest of Munich.

Space Shuttle Discovery on Mission STS-131

Launched on April.05, Space Shuttle Discovery and its seven crew members have successfully accomplished Mission STS-131, and returned to earth safely on April.19. Discovery successfully undocked from ISS on April.17, and was preparing for landing on April.18, when Laurent Langelez captured the following images of the Space Shuttle.

These images of Discovery were taken at 04:55 CET, April.18 from Laurent‘s hometown Ramicourt, about 100km north of Paris. The equipments he used include:

Newton 254mm, Barlow x1,6, Filtre uv-ir Baader and DMK 31AU03.AS astronomy camera.

Processed in Registax5, stacked 10 images and zoomed to 200%.
